According to the latest quarterly report published by the Bitcoin Mining Council (BMC), nearly 60 per cent of the electricity used to power Bitcoin (BTC) mining machines comes from sustainable sources.
In the analysis released on Tuesday, the BMC found that the global Bitcoin mining industry's use of sustainable energy increased by 6 per cent over Q2 2021 and 2 per cent over Q1 2022, reaching 59.5 per cent last quarter - adding that it is "one of the most sustainable industries globally".
The board noted that the increase in miners' sustainable energy also coincided with an increase in mining efficiency.
Bitcoin's mining hash rate in the second quarter increased 137 per cent year-on-year, while energy use increased only 63 per cent, demonstrating a 46 per cent increase in efficiency.
